How we check if a site is down

Every status on IsItDownUK comes from a live check, run when you ask for it.

• We load the website. Our checker requests the address from Cloudflare's global network, follows any redirects, and waits up to 10 seconds for an answer.
• We read the answer. A normal response means the site is up. A server error, a failed connection or no answer within 10 seconds means it looks down.
• Some sites block automated checks. If a site answers but refuses our checker, we count it as up, because the server is responding. If the site's network won't let our checker through at all, we show "Couldn't check" instead of guessing.
• Results are reused for 60 seconds so we don't overload anyone's website.

For the UK services we list, we check their main public website. A company's app, sign-in or payments can sometimes fail while its website still works.

IsItDownUK is independent and not affiliated with any company listed. Service names are used only to identify the service.
